Mark Sanford is debuting an ad across South Carolina today explaining why he won’t be accepting millions in federal stimulus money. Most South Carolina residents are up in arms about his decision not to take the federal money due to the large amount of jobs that will be lost. Not surprisingly, Mark Sanford does have his share of supporters.
Overall Sanford’s motives have been questioned, as many think he is attempting to position himself for a presidential bid some time in the future. I’m not certain what his strategy is, since right now he’s hurting his base.
But how much can South Carolina really blame Mark Sanford for his actions? I mean he was voted in as the South Carolina governor twice. In both elections he won decisively. But now, he’s public enemy number one. Who expected this?
Were there signs Mark Sanford would make such foolish decisions earlier? I mean South Carolina does have the best schools and they have a hot job market, don’t they? No. Then why not? How DID South Carolina get all of this debt Mark Sanford has been trying to get rid of with this federal stimulus money?
I think SC as a whole should learn from their mistakes and stop voting people in due to personal reasons but for reasons that will help the state as a whole. South Carolina voters should stop voting in people that are only looking out for themselves and only certain residents of South Carolina, but all residents of South Carolina.
South Carolina has a history of making bad decisions due to personal reasons. It’s time for the first state to secede from the Union to wake up and come into the new millennium and vote people in that are going to make educated, responsible decisions for all of it’s people. I mean, you really do die by the sword you live by.
Mark Sanford is not only the Governor of South Carolina, but he’s a good reason to get out and vote! And not just vote for anybody, but vote for the right person.
