Manny Ramirez Suspended for Steroid Abuse

by americaoutspoken on 07/05/2009

The sky seems to keep falling in on the stars of Major League Baseball. Manny Ramirez was suspended today for 50 games for violating Major League Baseball’s drug abuse policy.

Manny’s response to the suspension: “Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me,” Ramirez said. “Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.

Will the steroid saga in baseball ever end? It’s all fine that baseball is now taking a stand against this form of cheating the game, but let’s be honest here. Every couple of months we discover another major star in baseball cheating by the way of steroids.

How in the world could this go on for so long, with what it appears now, ninety percent of all the major baseball players were cheating all along. Yes, MLB, let’s take a stand now. Did you really not know this was going on all along?  Did you not see Mark McGwire sprout from a string bean during the early part of his career to a muscle bound giant?

Here’s something else to think about. If all of the major stars are doing it, what about all the minor stars that are in the same locker rooms waiting for their turn to get the bid dollars.   If the big guys are doing it and have been escaping under the radar for so long,  the little guys trying to get to where they are have definitely been taking note.  There is no doubt, this thing is bigger than what’s being revealed now.

First Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, A-Rod, now Manny Ramirez… who’s next, the bat boys? This is a total embarrassmentfor Major League Baseball, but it is one embarrassment they definitely deserve.

Let’s be real here, the players juice up for fatter contracts and all the glory that comes with it. The owners and the league only pay these players a small fraction of what they take in, so these guys have been profiting off steroids just as much as the players have been.  And they’ve been earning more from it!

At this point if Major League Baseball really wants to do the right thing about steroid abuse, they need to start by refunding every fan their hard earned dollars for the illusions they’ve been watching over the last decade. Right now, major league baseball seems phonier than pro wrestling, but at least you know wrestling is fake.

Maybe baseball should try using a disclaimer for it’s viewers. Here’s a good one:

WARNING: The professional baseball players you are watching maybe playing subject to steroid abuse. Take severe caution with what you are watching. None of what you are viewing may be real.
